Nikola Kross has given up on living in harmony with her classmates and exasperated teachers: she prefers dabbling in experimental chemistry to fitting in. But when her life is axially inverted by a gang of extraterrestrials who kidnap her dad and attempt to recruit her into their service, she discovers he's been keeping a world of secrets from her--including the school for geniuses where she's sent for refuge, a place where classes like Practical Quantum Mechanics are the norm and where students use wormholes to commute to class. For Nikola, the hard part isn't school; it's making friends, especially when the student body isn't (entirely) human. But the most puzzling paradox of all is Nikola herself, who has certain abilities that no one understands--abilities that put her whole school in greater danger than she could have imagined.

I am
a nonstop ball of energy.
Powerful and full of light.
I am a go-getter. A difference maker. A leader.
The confident Black narrator of this book is proud of everything that makes him who he is. He’s got big plans, and no doubt he’ll see them through–as he’s creative, adventurous, smart, funny, and a good friend. Sometimes he falls, but he always gets back up. And other times he’s afraid, because he’s so often misunderstood and called what he is not. So slow down and really look and listen, when somebody tells you–and shows you–who they are. There are superheroes in our midst!

This book starts out, "Australia is filed with animals that are very, very different from animals in other lands. There are many birds, mammals, reptiles and marsupials (mar-soo-pee-uhls)."
The problem is, marsupials ARE mammals. They are just not PLACENTAL mammals. Their babies drink mom's milk and they have hair = mammal.
I hate when books purport to be educational but contain misleading or false information. This sentence misleads the reader into thinking that marsupials are not mammals. I read the rest of the book quickly to see if this was corrected somewhere and I didn't see it.
I wonder whether there was other false or misleading info in this book that I didn't catch.
I purchased this in a pack of used books for "early reading." However, it will be heading to the trash.
