Pure and Simple : The Extraordinary Teachings of a Thai Buddhist Laywoman
Upasika Kee Nanayon
Publié en 2005
Livre
Documentaire
Upasika Kee was a uniquely powerful spiritual teacher. Evocative of the great Ajahn Chah, her teachings are earthy, refreshingly direct, and hard-hitting. In the twentieth century, she grew to become one of the most famous teachers in Thailand--male or female--all the more remarkable because, rarer still, she was not a monastic but a layperson. Her relentless honesty, along with her encouraging voice, is one reason so many contemporary Buddhist teachers recall Upasika Kee so fondly, and so often. With this book, readers seeking something reminiscent of the classic Mindfulness in Plain English can receive instruction on meditation practice as they become acquainted with the legacy of a renowned Buddhist figure. Pure and Simple, the first widely-available collection of her writings, will be gratefully received not only by those who knew Upasika Kee, but by anyone who encounters her for the first time in its pages.

The Wheel Of Dhamma
Mahasi Sayadaw

Documentaire
Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta. Lord Buddha delivered the “Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta”, to a group of five Bhikkhus at the deer park of Sarnath, about 7 miles from Banaras, India on the Full Moon day of Waso in 623 B.C, soon after his Enlightenment on Full Moon day of Kason. This sermon is the first and most ancient one of Lord Buddha, and after it was delivered, the five Bhikkhus became Ariya Sotapanna on different days. This Sutta is one of the most famous of all discourses made by Lord Buddha. When Mahasi Sayadawgyi, at the invitation of the Buddha Sasana Nuggaha Organization came to Yangon to teach Vipassana Meditation, the Meditation Centre was formally opened with a discourse of this sutta on 4th December 1949 when the first batch of 25 yogis were inducted to Vipassana Meditation. Whenever a New Meditation Centre was opened, this Sutta had been delivered as an inaugural discourse. Mahasi Sayadawgyi had also delivered this discourse, in brief, on 11th July 1957 (Full Moon day of Waso) followed by another discourse on Anattalakkhana Sutta delivered during the Lent of 1957 and they were broadcasted by Myanmar Broadcasting Station. These two discourses together with Maha Satipatthana Sutta broadcasted on 5th May 1951, were first published in 1957 by the Buddha Sasana Nuggaha Organization followed by several editions. Mahasi Sayadawgyi delivered this Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta in detail, for 8 Sabbath days beginning from 28th . September 1962 and ending on 8th . April 1963. These discourses were tape-recorded, transcribed and finally edited by Sayadawgyi himself. Then they were put into a book form and published in October 1975 with an introduction by Ven: Thuzata, a meditation teacher of Sasana Yeiktha, Yangon. There were seven Myanmar Editions up to now. For foreign Yogis, this Myanmar Edition was translated into English by Sayagyi U. Ko Lay and was published in December 1981 by the Buddha Sasana Nuggaha Organization followed by a Second Edition in July 1995.

An Introduction To Tantric Buddhism
Shashi Bhushan Dasgupta
Publié en 1974
Livre
Documentaire
Dissertation by Shashi Bhushan Dasgupta. An Introduction to Tantric Buddhism. The primary concern of the Buddhist Tantras is not to establish a definite system of metaphysical thought. Just as the Hindu Tantras, taking for granted the fundamental tenets of the Darsanas, apply them to a practical effort of realisation, so the Buddhist Tantras, on the basis of the Mahayana principles, dictate practical methods for the realisation of the supreme goal. Ideas, current in other religious circles, are also incorporated. These Tantras are primarily concerned with the S-adhana or the religious endeavour, but not with any system of abstract philosophy. The philosophical portions introduced here and there cannot successfully explain the various practices and rituals, and they are not always relevant to the topics with which the Tantras are generally concerned. The main object of the Tantra literature is to indicate and explain the practical method for realising the truth, and so, the abstract metaphysical speculations could never find any prominence in it.

Contemplations On The Seven Factors Of Awakening
Ajahn Thiradhammo
Publié en 2012
Livre
Documentaire
This book is based on a series of talks on the Seven Factors of Awakening given at Bodhinyanarama Monastery in New Zealand during the Rains Retreat in 2007. My intention is to give some basic information about the Factors based upon the teachings in the Pali Canon, the scriptures of the Theravada school of Buddhism, to readers ranging from complete beginners to experienced meditators, including guidance on how to develop these important spiritual qualities. Thus this is a series of meditative contemplations to help support a direct experience of the Factors. I have therefore tended to emphasize certain aspects of particular Factors, for example, acknowledging natural energy rather than only will-power, making Awakening more accessible rather than explaining the 'higher stages', etc. I have included a suggested meditation at the beginning of each chapter to encourage a meditative enquiry.

Master Dogen's Shobogenzo - Book 4
Ehei Dogen
Publié en 1999
Livre
Documentaire
Shobogenzo was written by Master Dogen in the thirteenth century. I think that reading Shobogenzo is the best way to come to an exact understanding of Buddhist theory, because Master Dogen was outstanding in his ability to understand and explain Buddhism rationally. Of course, Master Dogen did not depart from traditional Buddhist thought. But at the same time, his thought as expressed in Shobogenzo follows his own unique method of presentation. If we understand what this method is, Shobogenzo is not so difficult to read. But unless we understand his method of thinking, it is completely impossible for us to understand what Master Dogen is trying to say in Shobogenzo.

Moon In A New Dewdrop: Writing of Zen Master Dögen
Eihei Dogen
Publié en 1985
Livre
Documentaire
Eihei Dogen (1200-1253), among the first to transmit Zen Buddhism from China to Japan and founder of the important Soto School, was not only a profoundly influential and provocative Zen philosopher but also one of the most stimulating figures in Japanese letters. Kazuaki Tanahashi, collaborating with several other Zen authorities, has produced sensitive and accurate translations of Dogen's most important texts. Moon in a Dewdrop contains the key essays of the great master, as well as extensive background materials that will help Western readers to approach this significant work. There is also a selection of Dogen's poetry, most of which has not appeared in English translation before. Dogen's thought runs counter to conventional logic, employing paradoxical language and startling imagery. It illuminates such fundamental concerns as the nature of time, existence, life, death, the self, and what is beyond self.

Light On Enlightenment : Revolutionary Teachings on the Inner Life
Titmuss Christopher
Publié en 1998
Livre
Documentaire
Buddhism is the fastest growing religion in the West yet it is hard to find a book which gives explanations of the teachings suitable for someone who knows little about the subject. Light on Enlightenment is free of jargon but remains as true as possible to the original teachings, giving readers the insight and inspiration to attain an en-lightened life. Intended for anyone who has ever stopped to think about what it means to be in this world, this book sets out to fill the moral and spiritual vacuum in Western society. Christopher Titmuss shows how Buddhist teachings are totally relevant to the problems of Western society, and a valuable influence on science, psychotherapy, green issues, lifestyle, peace, justice and community building.
