Texte et traduction du Suttapitaka Dighanikaya. Les écritures bouddhiques de langue pâli, le canon "en trois corbeilles", le Tipitaka (ou Tripitaka) forment les textes sacrés du bouddhisme aujourd'hui vivant à Ceylan, en Birmanie, au Siam, au Cambodge et au Laos. Elles représentent le seul canon bouddhique conservé dans son ensemble en sa langue indienne originale. Le Tipitaka, canon de la vieille école bouddhique des Thera, a donc le double intérêt d'être l'écriture d'une grande religion vivante et le principal monument du bouddhisme ancien. Il est composé de trois parties : - Vinaya-Pitaka "Corbeille de discipline" comporte des textes relatifs aux règles de disciplines des communautés de moines et nonnes. - Suttapitaka (ou Sûtra-Pitaka) "Corbeille des écritures", contient un ensemble de sermons attribués au Bouddha ou à ses proches disciples au cours des quarante-cinq ans d'enseignement du Bouddha. - Abhidharma-Pitaka "Corbeille de la doctrine suprême", est le compendium de philosophie et de psychologie bouddhiques. Le Suttapitaka "Corbeille des textes", comprend plus de 10.000 suttas regroupés en cinq nikayas : - Dîghanikâya : Les "longs" discours (Pali digha = "long"), qui comprennent 34 suttas - Majjhima Nikaya : Les discours de "moyenne longueur" - Samyutta Nikaya : Les discours "groupés" - Anguttara Nikaya : Les discours des "facteurs ultérieurs" - Khuddaka Nikaya : La "Division deslivres courts", comprend 15 "livres", y-compris le Dhammapada. Cet ouvrage contient les trois premiers sutta(textes) du Dîghanikâya (Recueil des textes longs) du Suttapitaka, traduits par L. Renou. Analyse du Brahmajâla - Brahmajâlasuttam pathamam - Le filet de Brahman. Analyse du Sâmannaphala - Sâmannaphalasuttam Dutiyam - Le fruit de l'état religieux. Dans ce gros volume, M. Jacques May donne l'édition critique de la version tibétaine et la traduction française des douze derniers chapitres du célèbre et précieux ouvrage de Candrakirti, la "Prasannapada". Depuis le début du siècle, plusieurs grands orientalistes ont édité et traduit les chapitres précédents. Grâce à M. May, on peut désormais lire dans une excellente traduction l'ensemble de l’œuvre qui comporte en tout 27 chapitres.

Vivre en héros pour l’éveil est un des classiques de la tradition du Grand Véhicule indien. Son auteur, Shantideva (685-763), l'un des derniers très grands maîtres bouddhistes de l’Inde, y déploie d’une manière inégalée l’exposé des méthodes pour ériger dans le cœur de chacun deux piliers flamboyants : la compassion universelle et la sagesse du non-soi, supports de l’infinie activité des Héros pour l’éveil et des Éveillés. Ce texte – qui paraît avoir été écrit à l’intention de l’homme d’aujourd’hui, tant l’acuité de la description de ses états d’esprit, de ses peurs, des passions et perturbations qui l’agitent y est grande – fut, au cours des siècles, l’enseignement de prédilection des aspirants à la plénitude et une source intarissable d’inspiration. Nāgārjuna's 'Letter to a friend', with a commentary by the Venerable Rendawa, Zhön-nu Lo-drö. For centuries, Dharma students have traditionally studied Nagarjuna's Letter to a Friend, for it provides a concise and thorough introduction to the entire Buddhist path practice. By examining the Four Noble Truths and the Six Perfections, Nagarjuna describes logically and poetically the internal patterns of experience which leads a person to buddhahood. Nagarjuna wrote this letter to his friend King Satavahana, in order to alert him to the worldly impurities, especially in discharging his royal activities, and to integrate spiritual values into his daily life. In this respect, his advice is still of special interest to those who wish to cultivate a religious practice while continuing to live and work in society. The commentary accompanying Nagarjuna's epistle was composed by Venerable Rendawa, Zhon-nu Lo-dro. This famous scholar hailed from the great Sa-sKya monastery in north central Tibet. During the initial period of their relationship, he served as a teacher to the renowned Tsong-Khapa, later, they instructed each other. Rendawa's commentary is quite clear and simple, and suitable for all levels of students. This book teaches the basics of Buddhist religious practice for beginners and advanced students, both laymen and monks.

The Saddharma-Piindarika (The Lotus of the True Law) is one of the most important sutras of Ma- hayana Buddhism. Composed origi­nally in India, some sections written as early as the beginning of the Christian era, The Loins is held in great esteem by the northern school of Buddhism, particularly Tendai，and is the basic scripture for such new Japanese sects as Reiyu K ai，Rissho Kosei Kai，and Soka Gakkai,“ This sutra is essentially a col­lection of responses, explanations, expositions, ex-cathedra lectures, and the like，bearing chiefly upon metaphysical issues: the nature of Buddhahood，the concept of nirvana， the Boddisattva ideal, the rewards of the faithful, and other theoretical matters that have become essential dogma in all Buddhist schools that have since arisen. A transfigura­tion of the traditional Buddha- situation ” (which is the basis for the Nichiren Mandala) is presented: “ the historical Buddha, the Tathagata of Sakyamuni，is seen in his eternal, supernatural aspect; he sits surrounded by an array of gods, arahats， demons， bodhisat- tvas, gandharvas, monks and nuns — all eager to hear the infinitely wise utterances of the Great Teacher. The revelations are made sometimes by Sakyamuni，addres­sing his historical sangha，including Ananda，Sariputra，Kasyapa, et al” and at other times by the Buddhas of the past and future, Manjusri and Maitreya,”
