Malgré les ruses du petit voleur, le propriétaire du troupeau, qui n’est autre que le dieu Apollon, le retrouve et veut lui faire passer un sale quart d’heure. C’est leur père, Zeus, qui règlera la querelle. Apollon séduit par les dons de son tout petit frère, le prend sous son aile et en fait le gardien de son troupeau. Mais Hermès n’en est qu’aux débuts des aventures qui vont le faire devenir le messager de Zeus.
