Mahayana Mind Training in Seven Points: An Essential Guide to Training the Mind in Altruism and Wisdom. Mahayana Mind Training in Seven Points presents a skillful method for training the mind and transforming problems into a path to happiness and enlightenment. Why we transform the mind is because we want happiness and no suffering, and because the root of suffering and happiness lies within one’s own mind. The Buddha gave very beautiful instructions on how to transform one‘s mind from the root through a better understanding of reality. One can transform all bad circumstances into the path to enlightenment with the help of these skillful instructions, which are like the sun. Even one ray of sun dispels darkness, and love and compassion are the inner sun, which dispels the inner darkness of suffering and depression.

Five Questions I Always Had about the Aggragates. The five aggregates are very central, as they are the basis for many main meditations. The very subtle yet extremely resilient grasping at the self-existence of “I” and “mine” is the root of all problems. To fully appreciate the harmful impact of this grasping and to then free oneself completely from it, it is necessary to understand both the illusory conventional nature of the aggregates as well as their final mode of abiding. I collated and translated most of the content from different Tibetan texts such as the Clear Ornament by Chim Jam-pe’i yang, Elucidation of the Path to Liberation by the first Dalai Lama Gyalwa Gedun Drub, and the Collected Topics by Yongdzin Purbuchok Jampa Tsültrim Gyatso. Some of these are my own thoughts, but still based on the same material. Any faults are entirely mine.

Instructions of Two Great Lineages Combined into a Unique System of Eleven Categories. Achieving Bodhichitta is a compilation of oral teachings given in the 1980s by Sermey Khensur Lobsang Tharchin on the two methods of achieving bodhichitta--the Sevenfold Instruction on Cause and Effect and Equality and Exchange Between Self and Others. These two instructions are presented according to the unique system established by Je Tsongkapa, which combines them into an eleven-step method of practice. This book includes a concise yet thorough presentation of the instruction for achieving calm abiding (shamatha) based on the explanations found in Je Tsongkapa's Great Exposition on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment (Lamrim Chenmo).

His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama ding to Arya Nagarjuna is a very significant eighteenth century Tibetan treatise (with a brief contemporary commentary) which maps out the paths and the grounds of Guhyasamaja Tantra according to Arya Nagarjuna's tradition. It is based on the incomparable materpieces of Manjushri, Lama Tsongkhapa and his hear-like disciples. In many Buddhist Tantras and works of realised masters Guhyasamaja is refered to as 'the supreme and king of all Tantras'. Acharya Chandrakirti's Bright Lamp (sgron gsal) states, This (Guhyasamaja) is the supreme subsidiary practice; a compendium of the meanings of all Tantras. Khedrup Rinpoche in his Short Writing (Yig chung) states, Moreover, if one initially understands Guhyasamaja one will automatically understand other (Tantras). His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama has also stated that the Guhyasamaja provides structure to other Highest Yoga Tantras; it, therefore, makes it easier to understand other Tantras of the same class. In short this work is an indispensable guide for initiated Buddhist tantric practitioners especially those of Guhyasamaja.

Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara / Kuan Yin) is not only Tibet’s patron deity, he also is the embodiment of the compassion of all the Buddhas and as such is deemed the best possible contemplative gateway to the cultivation of compassion. In this book, which has received high praise from monastics and lay Buddhist scholars alike, the American-born nun Ven. Thubten Chodron lucidly and engagingly elucidates the Tibetan Buddhist yoga of Chenrezig. Her explanations are based not only on scriptural but also oral teachings, which makes them eminently authoritative and practical. Essentially, Cultivating a Compassionate Heart is a knowledgeable, highly practical, and fairly extensive commentary on the Chenrezig sadhana. The book starts with the Thousand-Armed Chenrezig visualization and the preliminary prayers found in most sadhanas and the long mantra of Chenrezig. Only then does the author proceed to explaining the various concepts that make up the theoretical underpinnings of this extraordinary practice.

In 1979 Jon Kabat-Zinn popularised the Buddhist practice of mindfulness when he revealed that it could alleviate depression. Now the highly acclaimed thought leader and English translator for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Thupten Jinpa Langri (known as Jinpa) teaches us to take the next step. He shows us that compassion correlates strongly with happiness, stress reduction, a sense of purpose, better health and a longer life. Self-compassion is the overlooked key to achieving our goals. Yet many of us resist compassion, worrying that if we are too compassionate with others we will be taken advantage of and if we are too compassionate with ourselves we won't achieve our goals in life. We can actually fear compassion. Using the latest science, psychology (from contemporary Western and classical Buddhist sources) as well as stories from others and his own extraordinary life, Jinpa shows us how to train our compassion muscle. Jinpa's programme derives from a remarkable course in Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) that he developed at Stanford University Medical School. Much like Jon Kabat-Zinn's landmark Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction programme, CCT has already had profound effects on the many participants. Thupten Jinpa is the perfect guide to achieving a greater sense of wellbeing.

Like wise old friends, two Tibetan masters offer down-to-earth advice for cultivating compassion, wisdom, and happiness in every situation. Based on practical Buddhist verses on “thought training” (lojong), Advice from a Spiritual Friend teaches how to develop the inner skills that lead to contentment by responding to everyday difficulties with patience and joy. Following Stephen Batchelor’s introduction to the Kadamapa tradition that gave rise to these earthy, pithy instructions, Part One is a commentary by Geshe Dhargyey to Atisha’s (982-1054) Jewel Rosary of a Bodhisattva. Part Two includes a commentary by Geshe Rabten to the famous Seven-Point Thought Transformation.
