The reindeer think they look ugly with their knobbly antlers and so hide themselves away in the cold, frozen North - away from the stares and laughter of the other animals. Then, one winter day, Father Christmas needs help to pull his heavy sleigh. Of all the animals in the world, only the shy reindeer step forward. In return, Father Christmas gives them a very special, magical gift, the gift of flight on Christmas Eve. A wonderful Christmas story from Geraldine McCaughrean, with pretty, seasonal pictures by Heather Holland.

Little Red is described on the cover as 'A favourite tale with a twist' and that pretty much sums this attractive picture book up. As you might guess, it's a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood and stars a boy called Thomas (AKA Little Red) as the eponymous main character. The action has been relocated to an unnamed land 'much like our own', in a time 'not too long ago'. Little Red's parents are innkeepers and brew the finest ginger beer for miles around. The action begins with Little Red heading off to see his grandmother, who lives in the woods, and the story treads a well-worn path. I won't spoil the surprise but the ending has a delightful fizz about it.

Meet a truly funky, flares-clad fairy-tale heroine and a genuinely frightening villain in this hilarious re-working of a much-loved fairy tale. Poor Rapunzel can only dream about the world outside because her Aunt Edna keeps her locked up in their tower-block home. The lifts don't work and Aunt Edna is too lazy to take the stairs, so she uses Rapunzel's extraordinarily long hair to climb in and out of their tiny flat. Rapunzel's life is confined within orange and brown flower-printed walls, with only her beloved records for solace. But then one day, a handsome stranger climbs up her hair and a new adventure begins.
