Ashvagosha
Publié en 1975
Livre
Documentaire
The root text was composed by Ashvagosha in the first century BCE, translated into English by Sharpa Tulku, Khamlung Tulku, Alexander Berzin and Jonathan Landaw, and published by the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives in 1975. The translation and explanation of the root text are based on commentaries by Lama Tsong Khapa and Pabongka Rinpoche. Gen Rinpoche Geshe Ngawang Dhargyey gave an oral commentary of this texte at the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, Dharamsala, about 1973. Gen Rinpoche Geshe Ngawang Dhargyey gave a long commentary at the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, Dharamsala, in July–August 1976. It was translated by Losang Gyaltsen and edited by Nicholas Ribush from his notes of the class. The Fifty Verses of Guru Devotion [Skt: Gurupancashika; Tib: Lama Nga-chu-pa] was written in about the first century B.C. by Ashvagosha. This Indian poet was known by many names—such as Aryashura, Matriceta, Patriceta, Matichitra, and Bhavideva—and was a contemporary of King Kaniska of the Kusan Dynasty. Having previously been a strong non-Buddhist believer, he became an extremely devout follower of the Buddha’s path and wrote many works on its various aspects.

The Way of Mindfulness - The Satipatthana Sutta Commentary
Buddha
Publié en 1981
Livre
Documentaire
Translation of the Satipatthana Sutta of the Majjhima Nikaya ; its commentary, the Satipatthana Vannana of the Papancasudani of Buddhaghosa Thera ; and excerpts from the Linatthapakasana Tika. Marginal Notes of Dhammapala Thera on the Commentary. This book, The Way of Mindfulness, contains all the authorized instructions on Satipaþþhána meditation passed down in the Theraváda tradition: the Satipaþþhána Sutta stemming from the Buddha himself (in the more concise version of the Majjhima Nikáya, which omits the detailed analysis of the Four Noble Truths found in the Dìgha Nikáya’s Mahá-Satipaþþhána Sutta); the commentary by Buddhaghosa; and selections from the þìká by Dhammápála. While the volume of material found here will certainly exceed the amount a beginner needs to start the practice, the book will prove itself useful at successive stages and will eventually become a trusted friend and advisor in all its manifold details. Thus the reader should not be intimidated by the detail and the sometimes formidable technical terminology, but should continue reading, selecting whatever material is found useful and leaving until later whatever presently seems difficult to grasp.

Steps on the Path to Enlightenment - A commentary on Tsongkhapa's Lamrim Chenmo - Volume 3
Geshe Lhundub Sopa
Publié en 2008
Livre
Documentaire
Volume 3: the Way of the Bodhisattava. Geshe Lhundub Sopa's Steps on the Path to Enlightenment is a landmark commentary on what is perhaps the most elaborate and elegant Tibetan presentation of the Buddhist path, Tsongkhapa's monumental Lamrim Chenmo. In this third volume of five, readers are acquainted with the bodhisattva's path and the altruistic desire to make service to others the driving force of spiritual development. It begins with an explanation of what distinguishes the Mahayana practitioner from other Buddhists and goes on to describe the nature of bodhichitta. Geshe Sopa then provides a detailed commentary on the two methods to develop this awakening attitude: the techniques of sevenfold cause-and-effect and exchanging self and other. While bodhichitta's significance in Mahayana Buddhism is universally known, Geshe Sopa illustrates how bodhichitta can motivate a devoted practitioner toward complete enlightenment and how this is accomplished through the performance of the bodhisattva perfections. Whether engaged in a scholarly study or personal practice of the Lamrim Chenmo, Geshe Sopa's guiding voice leads readers to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the bodhisattva way.

Christmas considered from a Buddhist perspective by Lama Thubten Yeshe. Inspiring, thought-provoking. Includes an eight-verse mind-training section for eradicating the demon of the self-cherishing mind, illustrations, and a glossary. Lama Yeshe on the Spirit of Christmas: “True love does not depend on physical expression. You should realize this. True love is a feeling deep within you. It is not just a matter of wearing a smile on your face and looking happy. Rather, it arises from a heartfelt understanding of every other being’s suffering and radiates out to all of them indiscriminately. It does not favor a chosen few to the exclusion of everyone else. This is true love.” ― Thubten Yeshe, Silent Mind, Holy Mind.

The essence of Tibetan Buddhism
Lama Yeshe
Publié en 2001
Livre
Documentaire
The Three Principal Aspects of the Path and an Introduction to Tantra. “Meditation is not on the level of the object but on that of the subject— you are the business of your meditation.” “Bodhicitta is very practical, I tell you. It’s like medicine. The self-cherishing thought is like a nail or a sword in your heart; it always feels uncomfortable. With bodhicitta, from the moment you begin to open, you feel incredibly peaceful and you get tremendous pleasure and inexhaustible energy. Forget about enlightenment— as soon as you begin to open yourself to others, you gain tremendous pleasure and satisfaction. Working for others is very interesting; it’s an infinite activity. Your life becomes continuously rich and interesting.” “ Historically, Shakyamuni Buddha taught the four noble truths. To whose culture do the four noble truths belong? The essence of religion has nothing to do with any one particular country ’s culture. Compassion, love, reality—to whose culture do they belong? The people of any country, any nation, can implement the three principal aspects of the path, the four noble truths or the eightfold path. There ’s no contradiction at all.”
